Day 15 Summary

Arcachon
52 Kms (St Emilion to Bordeaux)
197 vertical metres
No mechanicals
No medicals
No misadventures
First train ride in France ( Bordeaux to Arcachon ) going sideways to get to the sea!
Wine : 5
Cup :  Geoff finally got on a train but it is still South  bound

Another stunning start to the day...the photos will tell the story... Grapes, beautiful villages and a wonderful cycle track straight into Bordeaux. A longSunday lunch of moules frites before the TGV ride out to the sea. ( Lucky we are at the coast as Simon's initial ticket purchase was to Agen not Arcachon) . A swim for us all at the beach...refreshing but warmer than the lads first swim the other day.
Fresh seafood for dinner ..what a Father's Day!! Found a good little non touristy place to eat ...ate the tiny restaurant out of fresh oysters.

Day 14 Summary

St Emilion
80kms
644 vertical metres
Mechanicals nil
Medical nil (a close call though)
Misadventure : Simon hit the dust...narrowly missed the fire hydrant but was swiftly attended to by Geoff and Lawrie and back on his bike. Nurafen plus really does fix everything!
Wine: day 13, 7
        day 14 , 6
Cup : John for his route planning through Chateau country and a surprisingly scenic corniche route...Marmisson to le Rigalet and Bayon.

A short ride from Pauillac to the ferry at La Marque through vineyards and past some impressive chateaux. It is the area of the famous names such as Chateau Latour .
The ferry took us to Blaye ....the ferry guys could teach the people who pack sardines a thing or two...the cars are parked so tightly. The ferry crosses the Gironde near where the Dordogne and Garonne rivers meet.
Hot cycling and some good hills but the trip to St Emilion was worthwhile...good hotel , another good restaurant recommendation and the chance to enjoy the local wines.
